Taken at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this gown is part of the China:Through The Looking Glass exhibition, this gown was inspired by a lotus flower, with the motif embroidered on the skirt as well. The shape of the skirt is based on the inflated crinoline silhouette that emerged in the West in the 1850s.
